Phuket Airport SIM Card (2026): Prices, Counters & Skipping the Queue with eSIM

Tropical beach with limestone islands and longtail boats in Phuket

Touching down in Phuket (HKT) and need data for the taxi to Patong? The SIM counters are easy to find — the problem is the peak-season queue. Here's where the booths are, what they charge, and the option that has you online before you leave the plane.

Where to buy a SIM at Phuket Airport

Counters from AIS, TrueMove H and DTAC sit in the international arrivals hall (Terminal 2, ground floor), right after customs — you'll walk straight past them toward the exit. Hard to miss, and staff generally speak English.

The catch is timing. Phuket handles over 10 million passengers a year, and in peak season (November–March) the counters can back up to 15–30 minutes when several long-haul flights land at once. Off-season, you'll usually walk straight up.

As everywhere in Thailand, buying means showing your passport for legally-required registration, and staff activate the SIM on the spot.

What the counters sell (2026)

Phuket airport tourist SIM snapshot, 2026
PackagePriceDataValidity
Tourist SIM (AIS / True / DTAC)299 THB (~$8.50)Generous / "unlimited"*~8–10 days
Tourist SIM, larger499–699 THB (~$14–20)Generous / "unlimited"*~15 days

*"Unlimited" tourist SIMs include a high-speed allowance, then throttled speeds. Packages rotate — these are typical 2026 figures, not a price guarantee.

Island coverage note: all three networks cover Phuket's beaches and towns (Patong, Kata, Old Town) well on 4G/5G. If you're day-tripping to the Phi Phi islands, coverage gets patchy away from the main island regardless of which SIM you buy — save offline maps before the boat leaves.

The eSIM alternative: Grab booked before the queue moves

1

Buy at home

Order your Thailand eSIM online before departure — no passport, just a QR code by email.

2

Install on Wi-Fi

Scan the QR the night before your flight. Two minutes (see our install guide).

3

Land online

Enable data roaming on touchdown. Your Grab to the hotel is booked while everyone else is still queuing at the counters.

When the counter still wins

Honesty matters: if you need a Thai phone number (+66 for banking OTPs or long-stay admin), the counter is your only option — eSIMs are data-only. For 30+ day stays, a local SIM from a town shop (or 7-Eleven) beats airport prices. For a 1–3 week island trip — especially arriving in peak season — the eSIM wins.

Getting out of HKT (you'll want data for this)

Phuket Airport sits ~30 km north of Patong. Options: pre-booked hotel transfers, the airport limousine/taxi counters (fixed-ish prices, ~800–1,000 THB to Patong), the orange airport bus to Phuket Town (~100 THB, slow), or Grab/Bolt — much easier to arrange with data already live when you walk out.
